Where is message in a bottle filmed

I just wish more movies were filmed on the real location, not some other place claiming to be that location. Lovely home which most are if they are by the water:.

Thanks , Julia! I loved the movie and especially the house. It was nautical, but not cutesy. Maine is beautiful and I knew that it was filmed there. Love this and thank you for posting it. Nice house, but a wooden ceiling does NOT make a house or room look like the living quarters of a ship. I lived on a large boat for several years and this assertion by the set designer is ridiculous. What a great beach house. After looking at these photos they make me want to live by the ocean.

I made a comment a few weeks ago on your Blog this was my ALL time favorite movie because of the Movie set. Love the house, love the set design, but the best thing in it are those glimpses of Paul Newman. I miss that guy. Thank you, Julia, for featuring one of my all time favourite movie houses. It has such a lovely atmosphere, beautiful lighting, just the right amount of shabby chic and especially the room where Catherine used to paint.

Watching movies with great houses in them always gets my imagination going and this inspires me to try to reproduce it. Hi Julia I love this movie cried a lot…. I remember after seeing the movie I dug out a very old pair of my keds tennis shoes. Left them on the porch the entire summer so that they would age much more than they already had and put them by my wicker chair. I wanted them to look like I had just slipped them off and sat down.

I live in Chicago and with Theresa living in Chicago I loved all the city sitings. I loved her place too. I guess I really never noticed the clutter.

It just looked lived in the way homes can look when people are busy and involved in their lives. My mother-in-law had a very sterile home and she was obsessive when it came to cleaning. She is fascinated by it and comes into possession of two more letters by the same person, eventually tracking down the man who wrote them, Garret Blake. He refurbished a boat called Happenstence with his wife before her death and he lives quietly on the Outer Banks of North Carolina near his father, Dodge.

Theresa and Garret become better acquainted, but she does not reveal her knowledge of the love letters. Along with the literal distance between them — they live hundreds of miles apart — there is another problem: Garret cannot quite forgive Catherine for dying and leaving him. Theresa's career flourishes as the romantic tale of the "messages in a bottle" is told in print, without naming names.

Garret makes a trip to Chicago to visit Theresa and her young son. Their new love grows, until one day Garret finds his letters in a drawer in Theresa's apartment. Garret angrily confronts Theresa and, after a night of explanations, he goes home by himself. A year later, Dodge tracks down Theresa. He informs her that his son Garret has died at sea in a storm while attempting to rescue someone else.
